Mrs. Shirley Brown Roebuck

SAVANNAH, GA - In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mrs. Shirley Brown Roebuck, 82 of Savannah, GA., (formerly of Ladson, SC.) who entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 17, 2018. She is a retired educator with over 40 years with Savannah-Chatham County Schools. She is the wife of Mr. Kenneth Roebuck, Sr. and the mother of Mr. Kenneth Roebuck, Jr., the sister of Mr. Clarence Brown, Councilman Aaron Brown and Ms. Rosena Brown.
Shirley B. Roebuck was born on January 23, 1936, to the late Isaac Brown and Emma A. Douglas-Brown in Ladson, South Carolina.
Shirley was raised in Ladson, South Carolina along with her siblings and many cousins. She received her formal education and graduated from Bonds Wilson High School. She was the 1st person ever from the small town of Ladson to be the recipient of an Academic Scholarship. She took her scholarship and attended Benedict College where she received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Education. She also took classes at Atlanta University and North Carolina College at Durham. After college, Shirley taught school in Beaufort, SC. Beaufort is also where she met and married Kenneth Roebuck. They eventually relocated and made Savannah, GA their home. She became an educator with Savannah Chatham County Schools where she served more than 40 years as a Biology and Science teacher.
She was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church.
Throughout her many years, Shirley enjoyed reading romance novels, sewing clothes, and making floral arrangements. She loved to laugh and make others laugh too. She was a sophisticated lady, but did not mind telling a good joke. But there is nothing or anyone she loved more than her loving husband of 54 years, Kenny and her son, Skip.
Shirley departed this life in the early morning on Saturday, November 17, 2018. She was 82. She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Brown, her mother, Emma A. Douglas-Brown and her brother, Samuel Brown.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, Kenneth Roebuck, Sr.; son, Kenneth "Skip" Roebuck, Jr. and grandson, Nathan. All of Savannah, GA. Her siblings, Rosena Brown, of North Charleston, SC; Clarence (Beatrice) Brown of Walterboro, SC; and Aaron (Frieda) Brown of Summerville, SC. Shirley has 4 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 great nieces, and 2 great nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
