Mr. Floyd Julian Lemon, Sr. Obituary (1949

SUMMERVILLE, SC - In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Floyd Julian Lemon, Sr., 70 of Summerville, SC., who entered into eternal rest on Sunday morning, January 19, 2020. Mr. Lemon is the husband of Mrs. Gladys Brown Lemon, the father of Dr. Jamelah P. Lemon, Mr. Floyd Julian Lemon, II (Khaalida) and Ms. Eboni A. Lemon. He is the grandfather of Ms. Haiden V. Lemon, Mr. Floyd Julian Lemon, III and Ms. Azizah B. Lemon and the brother of Mrs. Mary James. Mr. Lemon is a retired educator with Dorchester County School District II. "And God shall wipe every tear from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." Revelations 21:4 Floyd Julian Lemon Sr. was born May 27, 1949 in Dorchester County to the late Rollins M. and Theresa M. Lemon. He departed this earthly life Sunday Morning, January 22, 2020. Floyd joined Murray United Methodist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of the Murray Male Choir and once served as president. He also served as a Trustee and a member of the United Methodist Men. He attended the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Alston High School in 1967; where he played trombone as a member of the Alston Tiger Marching Band. Floyd continued his education attending the University of South Carolina graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While at USC, his love for music continued as he became a member of the marching band. He was also a founding member of the Beta Rho Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. As a sophomore, Floyd met the love of his life, Gladys Patricia Brown out of Blythewood, SC. The courtship led to their marriage in 1977. The happy couple moved to New York City where Floyd worked as a field representative for the A.C. Nielson Company and later as a sales manager for Carillon Importers. While in NYC they had their first two children Jamelah Patrice and Floyd Julian Jr. In the fall of 1984, Floyd and Gladys decided to move their family back to SC to be closer to family and were blessed with a third child, Eboni Aiesha. After returning to SC, Floyd worked in several career areas, but eventually settled on his passion of teaching. He worked at Summerville High School as a special education teacher and retired after more than 20 years of inspiring young minds. He was an avid reader (married to a librarian in fact). Floyd had a passion for learning and loved sharing stories. Jeopardy was one of his favorite shows. His children can recount many hours of being subjected to NPR and PBS. He also was not a stranger to practical jokes especially at the expense of his younger cousins. He was a soul and jazz music enthusiast and he loved cooking & working in his vegetable garden. At an early age, Floyd was taught the importance of voting and participating in the electoral process. He worked as a poll manager for his local precinct for many years. He leaves to cherish his devoted and loving wife of 42 years Gladys B. Lemon, three children, Dr. Jamelah P. Lemon of Summerville, SC; Floyd Julian Lemon II (Khaalida) and Eboni Aiesha Lemon both of Atlanta, GA. One sister Mary E. James (Lizzie) of Summerville, SC. Three grandchildren: Haiden, Floyd Julian III and Azizah of Atlanta, GA. Two aunts, Eurtistine Holt of Atlanta, GA and Delores Lemon of Latta, SC, a godchild, Corey Lemon of Savannah, GA, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Floyd was a devoted father and caring husband. He will be remembered for his quiet wisdom and his service to his church and community.
